Swarm!
I haven’t mentioned the garden in over a year. That is due in part to the fact that I no longer live on my parents’ property where we keep the 100 square foot garden.

This week I’m working at my uncles’ shower business on RAGBRAI (the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa). I’m also biking a small part of the week-long ride. I’ve abandoned my food sensitivity diet (more on that later) and am eating a gluten free and dairy free diet again. Eating this week has been a lot like what I eat when camping.

I am lost in the Rocky Mountains, dear readers, and I am loving it!!!
I am currently sitting in a cozy coffee shop in downtown Estes Park, Colorado enjoying a cup of mint tea and free wi-fi. Oh, free wi-fi, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…… um, LOTS.
I am camping on the outskirts of Rocky Mountain National Park and have little or no connection to society in general. It is a beautiful thing, dear readers. Unfortunately, that also means that I have few opportunities to update GlutenFreeGarden.com with scrumptious gluten-free recipes.
I am returning to civilization on Saturday, and I will share some delicious gluten-free camping fare that has sustained my family and I through a week of rugged, seriously awesome hiking. You’d never believe it, but I summited a freaking mountain yesterday!!! I owe all of my success to my gluten-free meatball recipe.
I’ll be back online with more gluten-free love and lots of photos this weekend!

I had an incredible 4th of July holiday! My parents hosted our annual picnic for our extended family, neighbors and close friends. To our great surprise and delight, our guests brought a wide variety of delicious gluten-free dishes!
It is Saturday, and I think I will make some gluten-free brownies. Normally I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but today I am in need. The White Sox just lost their second game to the Cubs in the Chicago Crosstown Series. Hmph.
Another thing that always eases my bad mood is photographing Grey Cat (otherwise known as “Sully,” “Sullivan,” or “Devilcat”).

He only looks sweet and innocent.

It’s like an addiction, really.

At first, it all seemed so simple. Dig a couple of holes… push a few seeds into the ground.

It isn’t much to look at yet, but this is my gluten-free garden! Currently the fence posts are in, but we haven’t finished wrapping the wire rabbit/deer fence.

The most recent issue of Kiplinger ranks Des Moines as one of the top 10 Best Cities to Live, Work and Play!
In addition, BestLifeOnline recently ranked Des Moines as the 6th “Best City to Raise a Family.”
While I am blatantly plugging the city of Des Moines, all of you locals need to check out the article published in the Des Moines Register Iowa Life section yesterday (May 28, 2008) about Gluten Intolerance. I am just ecstatic that GI and CD awareness is spreading like sweet, sweet jam on gluten-free toast!
